I only paid for copies of Substance Painter and Designer after getting a full-time job (which isn't graphics design or even IT. It's sort of backwards and I'm not sure which way is better.Īs for the price point, Substance Painter is absolutely not a student software in my opinion and having education licenses that you can apply for under certain condition doesn't change that. So for example if you took a detailed brush in Painter and tried to make some sort of effect, the Mixer way would be to create that effect procedurally on the entire surface instead and then paint a mask with basic hard or soft brush to decide where you want it. It just feels unfair, thats all.įrom my experience, Mixer is much easier to use compared to Painter and gets the job done on most things that aren't too big in terms of layer stack (as the memory efficiency is non-existent) but it's built more around doing procedural effects rather than actually painting. (Hint: Not every country has uni's in that area). Thats discrimination 101, but I wont go there now. A total hoax imo, buy once, and hope it works for at least 2 years.Īlso the hate against self-taughts is beyond my comprehension, I have to be student to be able to afford it, effectively "blocking" people from learning it when they are not students. Bought the software 3x when allegorithmic had it, once for 120 and 2x for 80, so its 280 spent already on software which has almost nothing new in terms of features since last 3 years. Yes and since adobe takeover there were 0 discounts for people with existing license.Īlso Ive never seen any discounts in general after adobe. There is usually a rebate for owners of the previous version for the first week after release.īut even without the discount, it's still cheaper than the subscription.
